This fall, the Land Trust continued our multi-year effort to give away native milkweed and other pollinator plants in Central Oregon communities. We gave away more than 1,500 native plants and shared the story of the Western monarch butterflies and pollinator habitat needs at a variety of community events around the region. It's been so wonderful to see all the folks willing to create little patches of habitat that will help monarch butterflies and other pollinators thrive into the future!

This year, plants were distributed in:

  • Bend: we partnered with the Environmental Center to provide milkweed plants for two monarch-focused events to celebrate Welcoming Week 2024. We also participated in the annual Nature Connect Festival where we gave away many milkweed and pollinator plants to attendees.
  • Klamath region: we partnered with the Klamath Tribes to provide milkweed and pollinator plants for local backyard habitat and restoration projects. Thanks to the Klamath Tribes for making this possible!
  • Madras: we gave away lots of milkweed and other pollinator plants to attendees at Latino Fest. Thanks to the Latino Community Association for this great community event!
  • Warm Springs: we participated in the Warm Springs Thursday Market and gave away plants to attendees. Thanks to Warm Springs Health and Human Services and Warm Springs Community Action Team for hosting!

Thanks as well to all the local Central Oregonians who have stepped up to help create more habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators! Together, since 2020, we planted nearly 7,500 new native pollinator plants in our communities that will help monarch butterflies and other pollinators thrive!
